Byline Festival returns to Pippingford Park with its unique blend of talks, workshops and entertainment. Set in the Ashdown Forest, only one hour from central London, Byline orgganisers claim that their festival offers festival-goers a unique opportunity to recapture the spirit of festivals when they had more of a sense of purpose. It is for everyone who doesn’t want to take Trump, fake news or alternative truth lying down.
The three big talk tents will include leading journalists, politicians, experts and activists from around the world who will be tackling and hopefully helping to solve today’s big issues. Also check out the Data Dome which will host discussions on the weaponisation of big data, block chain, dark data and surveillance. The team behind crowd-sourcing the new Icelandic constitution will be asking you to help do the same for the UK.
The festival will also be hosting the London International Ska Festival and the New Orleans Flying Space Circus, creating a spectacular opening event in the new Big Top Tent. The Blow Monkeys are headlining the music acts. Also on themusic line-up: The Vapors, The Priscillas, Hows Harry, The Courtesans, Power Dress, Dramarama, Amy Odell, Tom Hingley from Inspiral Carpets and Kat & co. Also not to be missed is the Club Dome, featuring the best DJs
As well as immersive theatres, live bands and stimulating discussion, there will also be opportunities to take part in hands-on workshops. Festival-goers will be able to create documentaries and podcasts and there will be on-site newsrooms, workshops on stand-up comedy, creative-writing, poetry, podcasts, e-books, how to riot and how to survive hostile territory, and theatre acts will enchant wanderers to the forest.
For those looking for something a little more relaxed, the peaceful Woodland Spa will provide a wide range of spa treatments including hot stone massages, reflexology and deep tissue massages led by a team of fully qualified local therapists. A wander through to The Gallery in the Trees you’ll be able to find the best in photo journalism from an acre of woodland.
We love the fact that Byline is also a family-friendly event with lots of activities for both children and young adults, including a Kids' club, teenage art, drama, writing and comedy workshops as well as a climbing wall and other fun activities.
By night, the tents will transform into the Red Carpet Lounge for music acts; the Comedy Lounge for biting satire, the Beatnik Lounge for poetry and spoken word, Campfire of the Vanities for all-night storytelling and strange tales and Cub Dome with a great line up of DJs.
London’s legendary media Frontline Club will recreate its famous bar on-site at Byline Festival, and you'll be able to keep well-furlled at the forest bars and the array of independent food stalls.
